Ground-Structure Interaction

Ground-structure-interaction is the iterative effect that ground deformations have on any emplaced stabilizing structures (beams, sheet pile walls, piles, liners, anchors, etc.), and vice versa. This is particularly important for heavy structures resting on relatively soft soils (Wolf, 1985). While limit equilibrium (LE) doesn’t capture ground-structure-interaction fully, Itasca’s FV-SRM approach does. By incorporating the support structural elements, a project’s behavior can be better analyzed, maintaining safety while preventing over-design and unnecessary costs.
