Understanding Production Drift Behavior at Chuquicamata Underground Mine

Understanding Production Drift Behavior at Chuquicamata Underground Mine

Since its production launch in May 2019, the Chuquicamata Underground Mine has faced significant geotechnical challenges. By mid-2020, stability issues emerged in the production drifts, causing support system damage and even collapses. This prompted CODELCO to undertake a detailed monthly assessment, classifying damage as mild, moderate, or severe.

In this insightful webinar, learn how the ITASCA engineers tackled these issues using advanced numerical modeling. Through the powerful FLAC3D platform, ITASCA´s IMASS strain-softening model was used to simulate rock mass damage from abutment-induced stresses. The model was meticulously calibrated using real-world data and monthly observations, allowing for representative understanding of drift performance and deterioration patterns.

Join us to explore how cutting-edge modeling and engineering insight can help ensure the safety of mining operations. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge from a project where innovation meets real-world challenge!
