What can be measured in rock? How should measurements be done? What methods are suitable? How should the results be interpreted? What actions are required?

Itasca will help you find the answers!

Itasca has nearly 20 years of experience of rock stress measurements, and are one of most knowledgeable in the business.

- We have large practical experience of measurements, having worked with everything from infrastructure projects to mining at really large depths. Me, Jonny Sjöberg and Fredrik Perman have had both SKB and Posiva as clients, and have performed measurements in the rock for the final storage of spent nuclear fuel, says Ulf Lindfors, Itasca. He goes on:

- Our consultants are experts on what measurements are suitable and what kind of results to expect.

In cooperation with the Finnish Stress Measurement Company Oy (SMCOY), Itasca is offering rock stress measurements using the LVDT-cell as well as laboratory tests. The companies also provide hydraulic fracturing in short boreholes using the "Minifrac"-equipment. Laboratory tests comprise strength testing on both cores and fractures.

– SMCOY does the measurements and we contribute with our expertise, so that measurements are done at the right place and with the right method. We can also assist with analyses and practical field work, says Ulf Lindfors.

Itasca's consultants proposes suitable measurement methods, states what data is needed, and provide cost estimates. By measuring at the right location, using the right methods, and doing correct analyses, the results will be reliable and the procedure cost-efficient!
