New Explosives and Blasting Tools in ITASCA Software v9.5

Please join us for our webinar on what's new in ITASCA Software v9.5, which features a new toolbox for explosives and rock blasting simulations based on empirical models, numerical analysis, and machine learning tools.

With these new solutions, you will be better able to simulate a host of rock blasting operational challenges, including:

✅ Explosive performance and explosive-rock interaction

✅ Fragmentation and fines generation

✅ Mine scale vibrations

✅ Throw, muckpile shape, and grade movement

✅ High wall and final wall damage

New Explosives Constitutive Model:

✅ The JWL (Jones-Wilkins-Lee) equation of state (EOS) is now a FLAC3D constitutive model, enabling simulation of the thermodynamic behavior of detonation products as they expand and model the propagation of detonation waves and the interaction of explosive products with surrounding materials.

New Rapid Tools based on Machine Learning:

✅ Interactive blast simulator for ANFO, emulsion, and low density explosives for different rock types, and blast hole layout. Results include rock fragmentation, vibrations (PPV plots plus critical PPV distance and scaled distance charts).

✅ Interactive bench blasting simulator for a single blast hole with ANFO, emulsion, and low density explosives for different rock types, and blast hole specifications. Results include energy distribution (crushing, vibration, gas), time pressure chart, hole expansion and crushing zones, and throw velocity and approximate throw distance.

New Examples for Rock Blasting Simulations:

✅ A borehole-rock interaction example model in FLAC2D and FLAC3D

✅ A mine scale vibration model FLAC3D

✅ An example of fracturing from different pressure pulses in PFC3D

✅ An example of modeling throw, muck pile formation, and grade movement in PFC3D

ITASCA software treats the explosive rock interaction in a physically realistic way to ensure a solid foundation for subsequent calculations of fragmentation, vibrations, throw, and other results.
